FAQ

1. Is this operated by a certified Tour Operator?

No. I am not a tour operator; I am not our your guide. I am your friend who will take you to Community-managed centers certified by the Ecuadorian Government.

2. Will I need any vaccine?

At this moment, Ecuador's government does not require any type of vaccination for international travelers. However, they recommend the yellow fever vaccine if you enter the Amazon. This vaccine needs to be applied 10 days prior to your trip. Check if you can apply it in your country. If you reside in the US, find that info here https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a607030.html. Keep in mind that it's your responsibility to keep updated of last minute changes regarding requirements for international travelers entering Ecuador. You can get that info in the link shared in the next question.

3. Do I need a visa to enter Ecuador?

If you are a US, Canadian or UK Citizen you don't need a visa to enter Ecuador. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to have your passport valid for at least six months after your date of entry into Ecuador, and to remain updated of any changes in requirements for international travelers. Check out the latest information or the requirements for other nationals here https://www.ministeriodegobierno.gob.ec/requisitos-para-ingresar-a-ecuador/

4. Is Ecuador a safe country?

Ecuador has suffered a surge in crime as of 2023. But the problem is focused mainly on large cities and in certain areas. The Amazon, and especially the areas we will be visiting, were chosen for being extremely safe. Besides the organized crime, Ecuadorians, and especially first nations, are usually extremely respectful and peaceful people.

5. What about Ayahuasca? Will I drink it if I want to?

Ayahuasca is a sacred herb that should not be used out of curiosity or for experimenting. Shamans always recommend that you have gone through a process of detoxication before using it. If you have a clear intention of why you want to take it, the shaman will evaluate your request and confirm it after seeing you. There is no additional cost in case you are approved to drink it.

6. How is weather in Ecuador?

Ecuador does not have four seasons. The weather in the Amazon is hot, though the area of the Amazon we are going has some altitude and is not as terribly hot as other parts of the jungle. Quito is 2,800 meters above sea level, so expect a colder weather in your first and last nights.

7. How fit do I need to be for this trip?

We have a few treks in this trip. Our priority with the treks is not speed. We will walk slowly, we will make stops to feel deeply the jungle. The priorities in this trip will always be to connect with nature, with the local people, to do contemplation. Nobody will frown on you if you walk slower.
